Amplifying women's voices in live music.
Building pathways. Telling stories that matter.
We share the stories of female artists, crew, and fans โ the perspectives often missing from these scenes. For everyone who believes women belong behind the camera, on stage, and in every role.
Girls in the Pit started with a moment โ looking across a photo pit and seeing other women holding cameras. That spark became a mission: to build real pathways for women into creative roles across live music, from photography and videography to storytelling and beyond.
We span the jam band and punk scenes, centering women's stories while welcoming the artists, industry folks, and allies who shape these communities. This isn't about gatekeeping โ it's about making the case for why these voices belong everywhere.
We don't just document representation โ we build the roads that get women into creative roles.
Every episode is an honest, improvisational conversation about the creative journey โ never scripted, never surface-level.
We center women and welcome allies. Everyone has a role to play in building a more inclusive music community.
DIY spirit, no pretense. We show up with cameras, mics, and a refusal to wait for permission.
Photographer, storyteller, and the voice behind Girls in the Pit. Tara started GITP after a moment in a photo pit โ looking across and seeing other women holding cameras. That spark became a mission to build real pathways for women into creative roles across live music.
Producer, filmmaker, and one of Tara's oldest friends. They met in ski club at UC Davis โ and once you can tame 80 drunk college students at a mountain resort, you can pretty much do anything. Years later, they found themselves in the same city, creating at the same time, and the collaboration was inevitable.
Tara sets the stage โ what Girls in the Pit is about, the moment that started it all, and why building pathways for women in live music matters now more than ever.
